Help for Step 5 - How long for?

In this section we would like to know how long you met each contact for during the survey day. Cross the one box that best describes the total duration of contact. If you met the same person multiple times, please add together all the times and cross a single box. For groups of people please cross the one box that applies best to an average member of the group.

Four options are available:

10 min or less: Cross this box for all short duration contacts.

11 min to 30 min: This will most likely apply to relatively short meetings with contacts, a short chat or discussion.

31 min to 1 hour: These will be longer meetings and will often apply to business meetings or longer chats.

More than 1 hour: Cross this box for all contacts that you met for more than an hour in total during the day. This box will generally apply to close work colleagues and home contacts.

We are asking you for this information because the risk of you catching infection generally increases the longer you spend with a contact. We have chosen the four categories to cover a broad range of encounters.

Example
You work in an office with Joe and are frequently chatting: cross 'More than 1 hour'
You met Ann while out shopping and spoke very briefly: cross '10 mins or less'
You spoke to Fred for 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the afternoon: cross '31 min to 1 hour'
